Privacy Policy

REAL is a Chrome extension that detects AI-generated images on social media platforms including X (Twitter), Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, and LinkedIn. As you browse these sites, REAL identifies images in your feed and checks them against an AI detection service in real time.

When you use REAL, the following information is processed:

• Image URLs — the public URL of images in your feed are sent to our backend server for analysis. We do not send image content itself, only its URL.
• AI detection scores — the result of each check (a score between 0 and 1) is cached on our server to avoid checking the same image twice.
• Your extension settings — settings like blur intensity are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. We never see these.

• Your name, email, or any account information
• Your messages, DMs, or any text content on the page
• Which websites you visit beyond the image URLs we check
• Your IP address beyond temporary rate limiting enforcement
• Any data sold to or shared with third parties
• Cookies or any tracking technologies

REAL uses Sightengine to perform AI image detection. When an image URL is sent to our backend, it is forwarded to Sightengine's API for analysis. Only the image URL is shared — no user data.

To avoid checking the same image multiple times and wasting resources, we cache image URLs and their detection scores in memory on our server. This cache is not persisted to disk and clears every time our server restarts. Cached URLs are never associated with individual users.

To prevent abuse of our service, we limit the number of requests that can be made from a single IP address per 15-minute window. IP addresses are temporarily logged for the purpose of enforcing these limits only and are not stored permanently.

REAL is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

We may update this privacy policy as the product evolves. Any significant changes will be noted with an updated date at the top of this page.
